No-No-No-Noblog November

“I saw this film the other night: The Full Monty. You get some music, I’ll take all my clothes off.”

The last day of November is a day of powerfully mixed emotions for me, or has been for roughly the last ten years. November is the home of that equal parts awesome and terrifying endeavor, NaNoWriMo.

NaNoWriMo, for the uninitiated, is short for National Novel Writing Month. Now, this is a bit of a misnomer, as it’s not officially sanctioned, and it’s not just national but international. But basically, NaNoWriMo is a challenge for any storyteller: write a 50,000 word novel solely in the 30 days of November. The goal is turning novel-writing and storytelling into a spectator sport. Literally anyone and everyone is welcome to NaNoWriMo, regardless of age, experience, or even talent. It’s a creative endeavor with an incredible deadline, something which most people need to complete anything.

Whooooooosh!

I plan to write a sort of NaNoWriMo 101 post at some point. It’s been something that’s kept me crazyily entertained for the last ten years, and I’ve drug nearly everyone I know into it. I’ve proselytized to family, friends, former friends, coworkers, enemies, and arch enemies because it’s just that much fun (torture and stress, yes, but fun too). This year marks my seventh victory!

I’m just this good. Don’t send flowers, just money.

Also my first early victory (as in I am not furiously writing up until midnight of the 30th). Huzzah!

This November also marks my first NoShave November. Results are mixed. While not shaving is super nice, and I don’t believe any one person, regardless of gender, should have to or even think they have to shave any parts of their body to be socially acceptable, I’ll probably end up shaving my armpits. Even with my current efforts to love my body, I’m just not down with the pit hair yet. Although, if I were so inclined, there is enough to dye. So there’s always that.

Now that the novel writing and hair growing is largely out of the way, regularly scheduled blog posts will follow. And by regular of course I mean irregular, because I plan and the whole cosmos laughs.
